Node to Code: Four Steps to Developing Revit Add-ins from Dynamo Graphs
Hosted by Michael Kilkelly, ArchSmarter
Dynamo is a great tool that allows you to easily create time-saving Revit automations without writing a line of code. It's an effective way to harness the power of the Revit API. However, Dynamo doesn't work well when you want to deploy those tools to others on your project team or throughout your office. That's where Revit add-ins come in. Revit add-ins run faster and are easier to deploy than Dynamo graphs. Add-ins also allow you to harness external libraries and create full-featured user interfaces. But unlike Dynamo, learning to code can be difficult. You need to download specific software, learn a programming language, and figure out how to connect it all to Revit. It's no small effort!

Over the past few years, I've translated over fifty Dynamo graphs into custom Revit add-ins. In doing so, I've developed a process for efficiently translating node to code. During this free 90-minute workshop, I will share my four-step process for translating nodes to code. We'll start with setting up the ideal programming environment, including what software you need (hint: all of it is free). We'll then discuss how to leverage existing resources and what code you need to know to get started. Lastly, I'll share some tips for optimizing the process for efficiency.

This is going to be a low-key, Q&A-type session. I will show some examples and leave plenty of time for questions. I aim to show up, share my experiences, offer guidance, and answer your questions. I hope to see you there!
